Ladies Golf Association May Update
The 2010 Golf season began with an ‘Opening Day” tournament followed by cocktails, dinner and a general meeting. The day was beautiful, dinner delicious, and meeting short and sweet. Thanks to Ann Richardson for the dinner arrangements.
The Captain’s Choice format allowed for those of us who became a bit “rusty” this snowy winter, to be brave and enjoy ourselves without too much stress. The 9-holers joined the 18-holers with the following results:
1st Place Bea Sink, Debra Scott,
Diana Clements, Maude Hoffman
2nd Place Joanne Harllee, Janet McMahon,
Barbara Michael, Pat Cliborne
3rd Place Moyra Cawood, Jerry Clapper, Pende Ford
Closest-To-Pin Bea Sink, Moyra Cawood,
Lolene Corron, Linda Ellett
Susan Shortridge and Susie Parrish fooled the participants on Thursday, April 1st with oddly placed tees and pins to create a maddening golf game. The winners of the “Low Net” format were: 1st: Linda Pilc and Barb Michael; 2nd: Martha Clark and Muriel Smith.
The Ladies were treated to Spring’s flowering trees at their peak on April 8th when playing in a best two balls format. Winners were: 1st place Susan Shortridge, Daphne Jamison and Barb Michael and 2nd: Moyra Cawood, Sonya Riche, and Ann Richardson.
Future Play Dates: (See Yearbook and Bulletin Board for information and sign-up)
Spring Handicap Tournament: 9:00 a.m. on May 12th and 13th
Lunch to follow play on Thursday. For more info contact Muriel Smith.

The winners for Thursday, April 8th were Pende Ford, Sue Adcock, and Paula Blair with the 2 Best Balls of 3-Some Net. The winner for Thursday, April 1, was Maude Hoffman winning 1st in the Blind Partner contest.

Please invite your partners and get your applications in to the Pro Shop as soon as possible – if you do not have a form you can pick one up in the Pro shop. Dressing up for our Theme of Shipwrecked Golfers is optional but you are encouraged to have some fun and dress up like you have been shipwrecked on an island for a week or two ……..we have fun prizes for everything, so come and join in this exciting annual event. Ladies Golf Association April Update
By: Muriel Smith, President WLGA
WE WANT YOU!
Are you new to the game of golf or new to Waterfront Country Club? Has it been awhile since you’ve played golf on a regular basis? Would you like to get into the “swing” of the game? Consider joining the Waterfront Ladies Golf Association (WLGA). We play every Thursday morning beginning April 1st. You have two options: 9 holes or 18 holes. Both are great groups. Contact the pro shop to learn more.
The 2010 golf season is in full swing. Mark hosted two clinics improving those swings and discussing the changes in our course this year. As the days get longer and warmer we look forward to seeing more and more of you joining us on Thursdays as well as the many other opportunities available to play golf with this fun group of ladies.
Thanks you to all who helped get the season’s events in place. Mary Kuhn gathered all the information together for our new yearbook presented at the Opening Dinner. Thank you to Ann Richardson for planning that event. Daphne Jamison will be hosting the Spring Handicap event on May 12th and 13th. Susie Parrish will host the Member/Member on June 17th. Teresa Shull will host the Tri-Member on July 15th and Martha will host the One-day Member/Guest. Thank you, ladies.
Member/Guest:
It is not too early to start thinking about the Member Guest Tournament scheduled for May 21 and 22 – we have a theme that will allow each of us to dress as though we have been shipwrecked and made it to an island for awhile. The theme is “Shipwrecked Golfers” – Mark has given us permission to wear our ‘outfits’ whilst playing golf at the practice round on Friday afternoon as well as the Tournament on Saturday. There will be prizes on both days for the most authentically dressed twosome – those winning on Friday are not eligible to win Saturday. We would like as many Members and their guests to enter into the fun of the tournament by dressing as ‘authentically’ as possible but it is optional - do not let it stop you playing in the tournament because you do not enjoying dressing up.
Application forms are available online at www.thewaterfrontcc.com and you can also pick one up at the Pro Shop. We have scheduled our practice round for the Friday afternoon – shotgun at 1p.m. Should you and your partner not be able to play at that time, you may get your practice round in Tuesday through Thursday of that same week by making arrangements in the Pro Shop. We will have fun after the practice round Friday re a chipping contest out of a trap, heavy hors d’oeuvres and karaoke………. So, plan on joining us and having some fun. Any questions please call Moyra at 721-2354
The Nifty Niner’s encourage all ladies who would like to play golf but have limited experience or time to come join our group on Thursday mornings and play nine holes. We are a fun group that enjoys the game of golf and usually finish around noon. The schedule works well with part-time or full-time jobs.
Beginning April 14th, lady golfers will be playing Wednesday evenings. This time slot is open to all women, not just WLGA members. You will have the option of walking or renting a cart. Come play and meet other golfers. For more information or to sign up to play, please contact Mark at the Pro Shop.
